What Live Collaboration is
“Live Collaboration (animate with friends!)” appears near the top of the official feature list, between unparenting and the graph editor. The developers’ 13-minute tutorial has a dedicated Live sessions chapter at 5:29 — short, but it shows the feature working on the developers’ own machines.
That is what is officially shown. How sessions are hosted, invited or secured is not documented on the listing, and we will not guess at it here.
The one-time permission prompt
Live sessions mean the plugin talks over the network. Roblox’s documentation is explicit about what happens next: “The first time a plugin attempts to use the service, the user might be prompted to give the plugin permission to communicate with the particular web address.” You can accept, deny and revoke these permissions at any time through Studio’s Plugin Management window.
- First session: if a prompt appears, accept it — denying it is the most common self-inflicted breakage.
- Sessions stop connecting later: open Plugin Management and check the permission was not revoked.
- Everyone in the session needs the plugin from the official Creator Store listing — a friend on a copied .rbxm file is a security problem, not a shortcut.
Not the same as the Blender connection
Eclipse also talks to another program: the free Eclipse Blender add-on. That connection is different — the add-on runs a small server on your own computer (127.0.0.1) so Blender and Eclipse on the same machine can sync. It cannot connect you to other people. Friends, networks and live sessions belong to Live Collaboration.
When a session will not connect
- Restart Roblox Studio. The listing updates almost daily (v1.0979 as of 2026-10-23), and Studio loads the newest version on start.
- Check Plugin Management. Make sure the plugin’s network permission was not denied or revoked.
- Both sides update. If you are on an old version and your friend is on today’s, behavior can differ.
- Ask in the official Discord. The developers point bug reports there — see troubleshooting for the links and more fixes.
The plugin is Paid — $19.99 USD on the official store (as of 2026-10-23) — collaboration is included. Ignore tools or files sold separately as “multiplayer Eclipse”; the listing is the only real distribution.
